Ridomil
Gold® Bravo® SC
Now Available for Use on Carrots and Other Vegetables
Ridomil Gold® Bravo® SC fungicide has received federal approval from
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use on carrots and vegetables,
including tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, cucurbits, onions,
garlic and potatoes. This latest addition to Syngenta’s vegetable and
potato fungicide portfolio provides growers with a new, user friendly liquid
premix formulation of Ridomil Gold® Bravo® with an optimized ratio
of the active ingredients chlorothalonil and mefenoxam to maximize disease
control.
Bravo, containing the active ingredient chlorothalonil, is a broad-spectrum
protectant fungicide that controls many diseases. Ridomil Gold, a systemic
fungicide containing the active ingredient mefenoxam, provides control of downy
mildew and late blight diseases in certain crops. Applied to labeled crops
as a foliar spray by irrigation, air or ground, Ridomil Gold Bravo SC moves
throughout the plant to protect foliar surfaces, thereby preventing disease
infection before it starts.
“This new, innovative soluble concentrate formulation continues the Ridomil
Gold Bravo tradition by providing growers with outstanding disease control,
convenience, user-friendly formulations and a better value,” said David
Laird, Syngenta Crop Protection fungicide brand manager. In addition to exceptional
disease control, Ridomil Gold Bravo SC provides growers with a shorter pre-harvest
interval for green onions and tomatoes, improved rotational crop restrictions
and reduced Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulations.
“The formulation of Ridomil Gold Bravo SC reduces the chlorothalonil load
in the product makeup while maintaining the mefenoxam level, providing more efficient
disease control to meet growers’ needs,” Laird said. “With
Ridomil Gold Bravo SC, less active ingredient is needed to get the job done,
reducing environmental loading while increasing growers’ bottom line.”
Under severe disease conditions, Bravo® Weatherstik® may be added to
Ridomil Gold Bravo SC to provide maximum control of diseases such as Alternaria,
Anthracnose, Cercospora, black mold, gray mold and Rhizoctonia fruit rot. See
the product label for more information regarding the addition of Bravo WeatherStik
to Ridomil Gold Bravo SC.
As a result of the EPA’s approval of the federal label, Syngenta is in
the process of obtaining necessary state registrations in Florida, California,
New York, New Jersey, Colorado, South Dakota, Washington, Connecticut, Massachusetts
and Hawaii.

New Carrot Fungicide Announced
Amistar Top, a new Alternaria and powdery mildew fungicide for use in carrots,
has been given UK approval.
Manufacturered by Syngenta, Amistar Top contains azoxystrobin and difenoconazole
and is being recommended at 1.0litre/ha, equivalent to 0.8litres/ha of Amistar
and 125g/ha of difenoconazole.
Difenoconazole is a completely new fungicide for UK carrot growers, according
to Syngenta’s Jon Ogborn. To give persistent broad-spectrum protection,
trial feedback suggests that growers will achieve the best Alternaria control
by starting the fungicide program with Amistar Top at the onset of canopy development.
A second application towards the end of the fungicide program would protect
from disease infection and provide valuable green-leaf extension, he added,
noting that interspersing the program with a non-strobilurin fungicide would
provide strong protection against powdery mildew as well as Alternaria and
yield threatening Cercospora.
