PS 07101405:
An experimental cut-and-peel with outstanding flavor and eating quality. The cylindrical roots measure 12-14 inches in length with strong tops, uniform color and consistent flavor. 1405 maintains a minimal shoulder size; shoulder is ¾-inch in diameter and ½-inch at the tip. It has excellent root strength and resists cracking during growth, harvest and processing.

Roots are 12-14 inches in length with a very slight taper, uniform orange color and strong tops. 1441 has excellent root strength and resists cracking during growth, harvest and processing.

For the past several years Nunhems has been a leader in helping drive new industry-wide carrot trends, including increased consumer demand for nutrition and sweetness and greater choice in product types.

“Nunhems’ carrots are very versatile,” said Roger Freeman, carrot breeder for Nunhems USA. “They are easy to handle, store well, can be easily used in many forms, and, just as important, carry a very high nutrition punch in the way of vitamins, antioxidants and dietary fiber.”

Perhaps most visible is Nunhems’ work on specialty traits like those seen in colored carrots. These carrots--available in purple, red, yellow and light orange--are no novelty. They’re part of Nunhems’ global strategy to use value-added genetics to grow the carrot market through innovative retail products and enhanced processing characteristics:

UpperCut 25: A new long, slender imperator suited for the cut and peel market. It has proven very adaptable throughout most carrot production regions of North America and Europe. It provides the
grower uniform, strong roots that take high population and also very strong tops with good Alternaria dauci resistance. UpperCut 25 complements very well the popular Nunhems’ standards SugarSnax 54, PrimeCut 59 and TopCut 93.

Maverick: A cello imperator that provides excellent quality with strong yields, foliage and adaptability. Most notably, the interior color is excellent and adds versatility in the fresh-cut arena of sticks, shreds, chips, slices, juice, etc. Maverick also makes a nice bunch carrot for the western U.S.

SunLite:
This bright yellow imperator hybrid is the newest variety to be added to our colored carrot portfolio. The beautiful color and wide adaptability of SunLite makes it a colorful complement when paired with our other colored varieties. This variety is suitable for cello, bunch, cut-and-peel, processor and juice applications.

Crème de Lite: A crème-colored hybrid, Crème de Lite is a vigorous hybrid producing roots typically 22-25 cm in length and 2-4 cm in diameter. The quality is good with excellent uniformity, good smoothness and a distinct mild flavor. It also has no green shoulder. Crème de Lite is well suited for cello pack, processor or fresh-cut product, and yields should be comparable to other imperator cello types.

Sherbert: This variety has long, imperator-shaped roots with a very light orange color. The interior is also light orange with a small yellow core. It makes a very nice accent color when mixed with Crème de Lite and Maverick in slices, bunch or cello. Sherbert has very wide adaptation providing excellent disease resistant tops and high bolting resistance in most production areas.

Indigo Winter and Black Knight: Two new deep purple hybrids targeted at fresh and juice markets in winter and southern latitude production sites. Roots have dark purple exterior and interior color with a small yellow/white core. Texture is firm and the flavor is mild and sweet. These are most adapted to plantings in late summer through mid fall for harvest during fall to mid spring in the southwestern U.S. For
juice production, Black Knight would be the preferred choice.
